While our physical studio is not available due to the coronavirus restrictions, we have created an online platform for classes using Zoom.

The Freeman Studio only exists to serve actors. Everything we do is governed by a simple principle: what is the best possible choice for a working actor today. With that in mind, we have adapted our offerings to allow for the differences in the online experience versus the in-person experience and to be sensitive to the finances of actors during this challenging time.

One of the benefits of the online platform is we are able to connect with actors from all over the country... and the world!

It goes without saying, but we'll say it anyway:

Please stay safe and healthy. If we don't see you online now, we want to see you back in the in the flesh in the near future.

ONGOING SCENE STUDY

We believe that constant practice breeds confidence and expertise, which result in greater success in the audition room, on stage, and on set. Therefore, the Scene Study classes are offered on a constant, year-long schedule. Once an actor is enrolled they may renew their spot as long as they wish. Cycles are two weeks long. All of our teachers have prescriptive methods to get to the heart of what each actor needs to tackle practical challenges in their work, and to discover new techniques to grow in their craft. Find out more about each individual class below.

About the Class

Scott Freeman has been dedicated to training actors for three decades. In that time, he has developed a practical, prescriptive method for getting to the heart of what each actor needs. His classes are for actors with substantial training and practice.

Acting exercises at the beginning of class are designed to augment the work being done in class. Actors are assigned scenes to perform with scene partners. This material is from produced plays, screenplays and television scripts. As the actor progresses in the class, there is increased collaboration in choosing material. Time is always set aside in each class, if necessary, for monologue work and/or upcoming audition material.

While the class work concentrates on process, there is a equal focus on the practical aspects of the career. This influences the material chosen and emphasis of each actor's growth.

Classes are limited to 8 students. Class is on a 2-week cycle and meets once a week. Once you are enrolled in the class, you may renew your spot. If you give it up, and wish to rejoin, you will be placed on the wait-list for the next cycle.

About the class:

This class is for actors in the middle of their journey as developing actors. The talent and potential is no different than the other classes at the studio, but this is the class where they will gain a stronger technique, that will serve them in the years to come. Alexandra Neil brings her many years as a passionate teacher and actress, to guiding actors to that goal.

Alexandra strives to give students a place where they feel safe to take risks, face challenges, stretch outside their comfort zones, unleash their imaginations, and keep their bodies/voices/minds alive and finely tuned. Alexandra cultivates an atmosphere of trust, support and respect for her students.

Alexandra's takes a deep dive into the world of one playwright per session – reading an entire play. This involves rehearsing and working on the scenes, but also investigating the playwright’s themes, landscape (inner and outer), life and times. The class becomes a company by living in the circumstances and exploring the play together.

About the class:

While the emphasis is on scene study and monologues, there is also a substantial focus on exercises towards a deeper understanding of acting technique. Therefore, each actor gains a sustaining knowledge of their personal process.
